A Double Entry pp.55-69

Tell me, what is your opinion of Dr. Halstedt? Explain.

  1. Hola! I thought he was very persistent on his way the body worked and wasn't very willing to let others voices their opinion. Also he was very well known after he passed away and the doctors making new discoveries were trying to defend what Dr. Halstedt had discovered even though it was not true. This made me feel as if Dr. Halstedt was some superior person compared to everyone else and saying he was wrong would mean a lifetime in prison or be shamed for the rest of your life. Just my thoughts on him! I do have WiFi in the house I'm staying at so I will be able to reply much more often!

  2. Hi there, I'm sort of skipping back to this section because I have an interesting view on it now. Today I shadowed my former hand surgeon in his office and I was able to see a lot of post-op patients. One of the ones that I happened to see was a post-op double mastectomy, I'm sure it is much, much different today than back then, but it is still quite gruesome!

  3. I'm coming back... I'm sorry I've been away so long :(
Dr. Halsted appeared stubborn, withdrawn, close minded, brilliant, innovative, and lonely. I half pitied him and half looked down on him throughout Mukherjee's description of Halsted's life and innovations.
It's awesome that Matt had the opportunity to shadow a surgeon! That would be quite an eye-opener.
